SIPA PRESS, the foremost photo-press agency in France

Sipa Press covers world news thanks to a staff of 25 photographers, a network of more than 600 correspondents and exclusive distribution agreements with partner agencies such as the Associated Press (AP), Rex Features in the UK and La Presse in Italy.

From politics and conflicts to high society stories, from entertainment to economics, Sipa Press has all the bases covered, 365 days a year. Over 6,000 photos, captioned and complemented by text, are distributed daily in 40 countries.

A staff of 95 photographers, editors and salespersons work at Sipa Press headquarters in Paris. Sipa Inc., based in New-York, ensures production in the United States and licenses Sipa pictures on the American market.

Sipa Press is part of Sud Communication, the media group owned by French industrialist Pierre Fabre.

Since its inception, Sipa has maintained a strong identity as a proactive agency with a penchant for risk-taking. The agency is as committed to up-to-the-minute coverage of headline news as it is to in-depth photo features and investigative stories.

20 million pictures are filed in Sipa's archives and 10 million in its digital database.

In addition to its own production, which stretches back 30 years, Sipa Press owns or manages prestigious archival collections such as the Dalmas, Serge Lido, Eclair-Mondial and Universal Photo archives, thereby covering all aspects of world news since the 1940s.

Göksin Sipahioglu, founder of the SIPA PRESS agency, is originally from Turkey. He is one of the father figures of photojournalism. From the Cuban Missile Crisis to the Prague Spring, the tragedy of the Munich Olympic Games to the student uprisings of May 1968, few major events or historical figures have escaped his lens. In 1973, with his companion, American journalist Phyllis Springer, Sipahioglu created the agency which still bears his name.
